Hazel Blears, the Communities Minister, is going to tell local authorities and public bodies to stop needlessly translating documents.
Documents are routinely translated into any number of foreign languages so that foreigners who don’t speak English don’t feel left out. The City of Westminster has gone further and started translating road signs into Polish.
Blears says that there is no legal obligation to translate documents as a matter of course.
This is a rare moment of sanity in the oppresively politically correct Liebour Party. I would go further and say that documents shouldn’t be translated into any language that isn’t native to these islands. Nobody should be allowed to live in this country if they don’t speak English – what possible use are they to the economy if they can’t speak the language?

People evolve into their situation, if they dont have to learn, they wont and we are encouraging them to be lazy and non-complient
I am about to hatch an ace whizzo concept about it being ‘brill to be british’
So, stay tuned!
Totally agree! I you don’t speak English eat shit and fuck yourself in your country of origin. I’m saying this as a foreigner who DOES speak English! Oh and I still live in Russia as well. 🙂
Yeah, luckily most of us in England are nicer than that. You’re in Russia? Stay there, there’s a good chap.

OK, you don’t want me over there. But who do you want? Those who does not speak English, wear burkhas, preach Islam, claim benefits, does not wish to work, blow themselves up in buses, bring hundreds of relatives with them? You are so hospitable! 🙂
I don’t want people who not only use foul language (q.v. your previous post) but also fall back on lazy, inaccurate generalisations. I’m happy to welcome people who don’t speak English; they’ll probably try to learn. I’m happy to welcome Muslims; why would I not be? People coming to this country have a tough time claiming benefits, and only get them if they’re entitled to them. People coming to this country have a greater wish to work than quite a few people who’ve been here for a long time. And the last people to try to blow themselves up on public transport were British born and bred.
Yes, I’m hospitable. Like I said, most of us are nicer.
When I was younger my family lived in Belgium; we lived in a Flemish speaking area and ALL official documents/communication etc. had to be in Flemish BY LAW. When we had to go to the town hall to renew ID cards etc. the official was speaking English fine until we sat at the desk with all the paperwork, and then he was simply not allowed to speak English to us. We were able to have a translator with us – at our cost – but the officials would only speak Flemish.
I think it was the same in french speaking areas, but for French of course.
This, in the country where the EU is based.
In my country (Poland) there are english speaking people, they’re living here, and they don’t use Polish, so we have to get rid of them? It’s stupid…
