! This post hasn't been updated in over a year. A lot can change in a year including my opinion and the amount of naughty words I use. There's a good chance that there's something in what's written below that someone will find objectionable. That's fine, if I tried to please everybody all of the time then I'd be a Lib Dem (remember them?) and I'm certainly not one of those. The point is, I'm not the kind of person to try and alter history in case I said something in the past that someone can use against me in the future but just remember that the person I was then isn't the person I am now nor the person I'll be in a year's time.
I’m reading Taking Liberties again at the moment (well, not right at this moment, obviously) because it doesn’t hurt to remind yourself every now and again of the extent to which this bunch of twats in Westminster are destroying our rights and liberties.
So it really shouldn’t have come as a surprise to learn that the British government intends to pass a law forcing everyone who buys a mobile phone to provide formal identification which will be logged in the new communications database to tie up all your phone and email records.

Ye Gods, did my father die in a war to allow this country to be controlled like this? Even the USSR in its heyday couldn’t manage all this.

Here in France it is normal to produce your id card, or passport if you are an immigrant like me,when buying a mobile.
Could this new requirement in UK be catching up with some overlooked piece of EU regulation.

Do you not provide bank details, when you buy a phone? Bank account details are highly formalised as anyone who has had to set up a bank account will be aware. I beleive we are all monitored anyway, it is just that we are not quite aware of it and laws like this, point it out to us that we are and to the watchers that we should know we are.
This might be the inanity which tips the balance.
